The Fontana Parish Church under the newly appointed Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Bajada is holding a Lenten Concert on Saturday 20th March 2010. This concert is being held in collaboration with the Fontana Local Council and organised by the Schola Cantorum Jubilate.
Being established in the year 2000, Schola Cantorum Jubilate is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary. Various concerts and musical events are planned for this year to celebrate together with all those who through these ten years showed their appreciation, offered assistance or collaboration and supported this youth group. Since its foundation, Schola Cantorum Jubilate had the aim of contributing in the local musical scene and at the same time educating the people with regards the sacred liturgy. In fact the sacred polyphony remains the choir’s specialisation. They try to make people reach to God through their contemplative singing.
The repertoire includes pieces, mainly a cappella, by Palestrina, Kodály, Bartolucci, Debono and Portelli. The last two composers are young promising composers closely associated to Schola Cantorum Jubilate. The soirée will include the premiere of two pieces written by the Maltese composers. These are ‘Nunc Dimittis’ by Mark Debono and ‘Miserere’ written for a soprano voice and cello by Paul Portelli. The latter will be interpreted by Choir Director and soprano Marouska Attard and Jacob Portelli on the cello. Another solo piece included will be the ‘Pie Jesu’ by Fauré and this will be interpreted by Anita Vella Bondin. Dr. Joseph Camilleri will accompany the soloists and one choral piece on the organ.
However, this concert will not include music only. Manuel Cauchi, a well-known actor in the local scene, will read meditations by a Spanish Father José Miguel Ibánez Langlois from his book ‘Libro de la Pasión’. These meditations, originally written in Spanish in 1986 were translated into Maltese by Rev. Joseph Bajada. This mentioned book was republished several times by Edizioni Ares. It is a poem which narrates the major episodes of the last days of Jesus through an original interpretation of the gospel.

Schola Cantorum Jubilate qed ticcelebra l-ghaxar anniversarju mit-twaqqif taghha. Matul din is-sena ser jittelghu diversi kuncerti u avvenimenti muzikali biex jitfakkar dan l-anniversarju. Il-membri ta’ dan il-kor jixtiequ jiccelebraw ma dawk kollha li tul dawn l-ghaxar snin urew apprezzament, offrew ghajnuna jew ikkollaboraw ghas-success tal-kor. Sa mill-bidu nett, Schola Cantorum Jubilate kellha l-ghan li taghti l-kontribut taghha fil-qasam muzikali lokali u li teduka lill-poplu fejn tidhol il-muzika liturgika. Dawn l-ahhar zewg kompozituri huma qrib hafna tal-iSchola Cantorum u huma zghazagh li jipromettu. Fil-fatt ser nisimghu ghall-ewwel darba ‘Nunc Dimittis’ ta’ Mark Debono u ‘Miserere’ miktuba ghall-sopran u vjolinċell minn Paul Portelli. Din ser tigi interpretata minn Marouska Attard, sopran u Direttrici tal-kor akkumpanjata minn Jacob Portelli fuq il-vjolincell. Solo ieħor jinkludi ‘Pie Jesu’ ta’ Fauré li ser tigi interpretata minn Anita Vella Bondin. Dr. Joseph Camilleri ser jakkumpanja lis-solisti fuq l-orgni.
Minn barra dawn il-bicciet muzikali sagri, il-kuncert ser jinkludi meditazzjonijiet miktuba minn qassis Spanjol Fr. José Miguel Ibáñez Langlois fil-ktieb tieghu ‘Libro de la Pasión’ (1986). Dan il-ktieb gie ippublikat diversi drabi u b’lingwi differenti. Jitratta fuq poezija-rakkont tal-episodji prinċipali tal-ahhar grantet ta’ Gesù skont il-vangelu.
